Leather Desk Chairs - Different Types of Leathers to Choose From
We all know that leather desk chairs emanate prominence, success and elegance-all wrapped in one piece of furniture. If you're considering buying one, it is of utmost importance that you have an idea about the different types and grains of leathers. If you're a smart buyer, you would know that an informed choice will save you a lot of money. Genuine leather is probably the most versatile furniture material there is. It is, without a doubt, durable and strong. Now remember that its quality ultimately depends on the "type and grain" of the leather that you choose.
Different types of leather for your chair:
• Vege-tanned leather (Vegetable-tanned) - This is perhaps the most versatile and the most expensive material that you can use for your leather desk chairs. They are retrieved from Oak tree barks and other plants (i.e. grape stems and seeds, tea leaves) where natural tannins could be found. Tannins were used in the past to tan animal skin and turn them into leathers. This type of leather easy stretches when they are soaked in water. Due to its elasticity, it can easily be carved, molded, dyed, oiled, painted and waxed hence, the expensive price.
• Chrome-tanned leather - Unlike your vegetable-tanned leather, chrome-tanned doesn't stretch as much. How are they made? The animal skin is soaked in an acidic bath that basically contains a very high level of chromium, which a malleable and hard metal. This makes chrome-tanned leathers inexpensive. You will know if the leather is chrome-tanned when you see a gray-toned edge when it is cut.
• Oil-tanned leather - Have you ever tried touching a piece of leather that has a slightly oily feel to it? If yes, then you don't have to wonder what oil-tanned leather looks or feels like. Notice that no matter how much you try to wipe it with your bare hands, the oily feel doesn't rub off on your skin. This type of leather is known to be unique, agile and with the most interesting finish.
• True Buckskin leather- This type of leather is water-friendly and made of durable and pliable deer skin. It is soaked and treated in wood ash and lime solution. Thus, adding to its soft and supple texture. If you want to buy leather desk chairs made of Buckskin, make sure that the deer hide is treated with the right tanning methods. Otherwise, you won't be getting a chair with the highest quality and the exact feel of authentic Buckskin.
• Rawhide - Is a type of leather that is untanned. The animal hide is at its most basic state hence, the stiff texture when dry. But when they are soaked in liquid, becomes stretchy and flexible.
• Leather Processing - If you want something that's inexpensive, then this type of leather is for you. This is done by combining different types of leather such as, the vegetable and oil type. They are processed and given a vegetable tannin bath as this enhances the feel of your leather. So why is there a need to combine different types of leather? Well, the answer is pretty simple-to give an illusion that it has a good quality. Keep in mind though that this is inferior compared to other leathers that did not go through this process.Men's Leather Jackets
